According to 2010 census, the Vietnamese-American population has increased by 38% during the 2000-10 decade, from 1.12 M to 1.54 M, vs. 614 K in 1990, 261 K in 1980.

There was no Vietnamese community in 1970.

(Note: VNes in Canada: 150 K in 2001, over 70% born outside Can, 69% lived in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver or Calgary. Overall, 45 K lived in Toronto, while 26 K lived in Montreal, 23 K in Vancouver and 12 K in Calgaryr. Canadians of Vietnamese origin made up 1% of the total number of residents in each of Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver, whereas in other Canadian cities, they represented less than 1% of the total population. The recent 2011 census data are not yet available.)

Almost 3/4 of this concentrates in 10 states : CA 37.5%, TX 13.6%, WA 4..3%, FL 3.78%, .....

The most populous area is still the LA - Long Beach - Santa Ana (271 K), second is SJ - Sunnyvale- Santa Clara (125 K), ...

The most populous (VNes) city is SJ (100 K), then Garden Grove (47 K), Westminster (36 K), ....

However, the highest ratio (of the whole population) is the city of Midway, CA at 41.4%, then Westminster (40.2%), Garden Grove (27.7%), ....

Contrary to some belief, the VNes comm falls behind the American as a whole in most aspects such as education (although much better than most other Asian communities), employment, health care.

In order to assist the improvement plan for the community for the next 10 years, BPSOS (Boat People SOS?) is establishing the VNes-American Research Institute or VARI in an effort to encourage, mobilize the specialists, VNes or non-VNes, to carry out practical research projects in three fields - political, economic (?) and social. This effort will be officially revealed at the National Conference of VNes-American Leaders to be held on July 2 in Washington.
